Functions of the opening of a film.

The fast and the furious

What are the functions of a film opening what does it do?

Mystery – This allows the audience to not have a full understanding of the film so that they are more interested in finding out what is going on.
Thrill – People like to feel on the edge of the seat most of the time as this already engrosses them in the film.
Action – everyone loves some action. Putting this in the beginning of the film allows the audience to know it’s not as sweet and innocent.
The seduction of women – Having pretty girls in the film appeals more to the men, as they are the perfect women, they love cars, they love what the men do.

Fast cars – Every man must love his car and having them zooming all over the place entwines with the idea of thrill. As guarantee someone’s going to crash and it’s going to be a thrilling scene to watch. The diegetic sound makes it authentic and realistic.

Life on mars exercise

For our practice coursework we had to watch a scene from life on mars and carefully look for each camera shot and angle used. From our recorded information I along with my two students: Alicia and Joanna reenacted life on mars. We used various camera shots as close-up's to extreme close ups, high angle shots. We also learnt how to make a 360 degree mid shot with a dolly.

In the editing process we became familiar with final cut express and matching images to sound.
